LCPH serves and supports a healthy community at the Lorain County Fair

Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) continues to protect the health of people at the 2024 Lorain County Fair. To prevent the spread of disease, LCPH provides handwashing awareness signs and supplies hand sanitizer across the fairgrounds. LCPH also conducts food safety checks and education with food vendors to protect people from foodborne illnesses. LCPH staff will be at the Lorain County Fair to answer public health questions and to promote local services.

Visit LCPH’s tent behind building 17 at the Lorain County Fair, which will showcase Lorain County’s Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for public viewing and to collect more feedback. The plan was developed using traffic crash data and feedback from local road users to identify the biggest problem areas across the county.

“The plan promotes safer, healthier, and equitable transportation options,” says LCPH Health Commissioner Mark Adams, MPH, REHS. “The Safe System Approach is a framework that aims to completely eliminate deaths and serious injuries from traffic crashes for everyone using the roads by 2040.” LCPH collaborates closely with local agencies, schools and communities to promote walking and biking safety, safe routes to school, and provide car seats to qualifying residents.

“Some people love to begin their County Fair visit at the Lorain County Public Health tent to kickstart ‘Walk for Water.’ It’s a mini scavenger hunt that rewards walkers with an ice-cold bottle of water,” said Adams. “We’ve been doing it for many years, and fairgoers look forward to participating.”

The 178th Lorain County Fair occurs Aug. 18-25 at 23000 Fairgrounds Road, Wellington, OH 44090.
