Quitting tobacco improves health and increases life expectancy. Individuals who quit using tobacco experience health benefits within the first 20 minutes of quitting. The risk of developing chronic illnesses decrease within the first year of quitting. 


Talk to your healthcare provider about quitting. They can connect you to:

  • Over-the-counter medicine
  • Prescription medicine
  • Trained specialists who can assist you 

Find help in Lorain County

There are Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS) available in the county that can help and support you during your quit journey. A CTTS is a trained professional who specializes in helping individuals quit tobacco.

Lorain County Community College (LCCC) supports a smoke-free campus and has staff who help students, community members, and staff develop a plan to quit tobacco for good. LCCC has CTTS staff to help you get started. Set up an appointment:

Virtual Counseling Options

Quitlines: Quitlines are free, telephone-based counseling programs that are available nationwide. Call to get teamed up with a trained coach who helps you develop a strategy for quitting, or helps you stay on your current program. Many coaches are in recovery for a tobacco use disorder and offer relatable, judgment-free support.

The Ohio Tobacco Quit Line is available free of charge to ALL Ohioans of age 18 or older regardless of insurance status or income. There is also a special program for pregnant women. Nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges are provided for up to eight weeks at no charge to eligible participants.

My Life, My Quit is a free and confidential service for teens who want help quitting all forms of tobacco including e-cigarettes. Coaches help teens develop a quit plan, identify triggers, practice refusal skills and receive ongoing support for changing behaviors. Teens should text "Start My Quit" to 855-891-9989.
